there are several parts of the package listed on this page.  Please make sure this package is complete before turning it into the Personnel Department.  Print out all the forms, read them, and check the package for completeness.  Personnel will not accept incomplete packages.  The completed package should be turned into the Personnel Department, at the Municipal Building, 625-52nd Street.

  • Police Officer Qualifications:              
    • United States Citizen
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Attained their 18th birthday at time of application
    • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License with no less than six points
    • Have no physical, mental or emotional condition which could adversely affect their ability to perform the job
    • Vision standards set by the City.  No loss of hearing within normal voice range
    • Speak and understand the English language
    • No felony convictions unless pardoned
    • Meet all requirements of the Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board including a 2-year associate degree or 60 fully accredited college level credits at the end of the fifth year of employment as a law enforcement officer.
    • Probation period of one year.
    • Candidates appointed must conform to the residency requirement within one month after completion of their probation and maintain such requirement during incumbency.  Residency shall be established by a radius equal to the approximate distance to the Walworth/Kenosha County line north to the " Milwaukee " area. City residency shall include the following areas: Kenosha County , Racine County except for the Town of Waterford (the Village of Waterford is acceptable), Franklin , Oak Creek , and South Milwaukee . As Current Wisconsin law does not permit the ability to carry a weapon across state lines, the residency radius will not extend into Illinois.

  • Police Officer Salary Range (based on a 4-2-work schedule)
    • 2008 -  $47,244 - $58,644
    • 2009 -  $48,660 - $60,408

     

  • Selection Procedures:
    • Written test
    • Physical ability test
    • Oral Interview
    • Candidates must pass each portion of the exam procedure in order to be placed on an eligibility list. The best-qualified candidates will be invited to each successive step in the selection process.  Qualified applicants will be notified of the exact time and location of the tests.

     

  • Benefits:
    • Health Insurance: Full premium paid by the City for individual or family plans.
    • Life Insurance: Full premium paid by the City for term insurance with face value equal to the employee's salary. Supplemental and additional life insurance is optional (minimal cost deducted from employee's checks).
    • Vacation: 6 working days during first year (based on 4-2 work schedule), and 14 working days after one year.
    • Sick Leave: Unlimited, full pay, subject to review once a year.
    • Holidays: 6 regular holidays per calendar year.
    • Pension: Within the Social Security System and within the Wisconsin Retirement System, with the City paying it's share of the latter as well as the employee's share of the latter.
    • Deferred Compensation: Employee may elect to defer part of income into a qualified 457 plan.
    • Tuition Aid: 80% of tuition and other school expenses may be reimbursed up to $2000.00 per calendar year (upon completion of probationary period).
    • Productivity Incentive Program: $125 payment 3 times a year based on hours worked.
    • Clothing allowance: Full replacement costs paid by the city after initial purchase by employee. Plus $35.00 per month dry-cleaning allowance.
    • Direct Deposit Plan.
    • Shift premiums.
    • Union Representation.
    • State Death Benefit: One year's salary paid to beneficiary for duty related death.
