9/11 Prayer
Tomorrow is the anniversary of 9/11, below is a prayer that I have adapted to those who might wish to pray.
Reverend Donald J. Gibbs, O.S.B.
Pastor, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
Chaplan, Kenosha Police Department
We Remember...
Almighty God, these past years are indelibly inscribed in our memories.
We looked with horror on the terrorist attacks of September 11th. But we looked with honor on acts of courage by ordinary people who sacrificed themselves to prevent further death and destruction.
We give thanks for the men and women of law enforcement, fire and public safety who were injured or lost their lives. Eternal rest grant unto them!
We shed our tears in a common bond of grief for those we lost. Let us hold in our hearts all those who have been and continue to be targets of hatred and violence.
We are resolved to serve with respect, fairness and compassion the citizens of Kenosha and to do what is good, and right, and just.
We ask your blessing upon each of us as we serve the people of Kenosha. Give us good judgment in the decisions we make this day and every day. Keep me and all members of our law enforcement family safe during our tour of duty. Look with kindness and love upon our families and loved ones.
Help us to remember what it means to be Americans— a people endowed with abundant blessings. Help us to cherish the freedoms we enjoy and inspire us to stand with courage, united as one Nation in the midst of any adversity.
Lord, hear this prayer. Amen.
Be safe
